Harry Potter + Superman + Paintball = Yvonne & Matt’s Engagement Session

I LOVE it when couples suggest a location for their engagement session! And when Yvonne and Matt suggested the Reston Used Book Store at Lake Anne Plaza I couldn’t have been more excited! Although I grew up just around the corner and would go with my Mom whenever possible to exchange books, I hadn’t been there in probably 15 years. What a delight to find that it was just as I remembered! Scroll down for more:

After reading a little Harry Potter & Superman we went for a little ride to the countryside (hey, I rhymed) LoL – btw, Did you guys buy those books or just read & run? Ha Ha

I had such a fun evening with these cuties Layton & Grayson (two of my favorite baby names yet, btw). We picked some corn (shhhhh…. it was old and pretty icky anyway) and talked about making popcorn with it! LoL The evening was beautiful, well except for when the sun dropped and it all of a sudden became freezing cold. Didn’t matter though, we got some great pics of the whole family and had a great time! Love the one of Melissa (Mom) sticking her tongue out at Dad. LoL Too Cute!

When I drive I don’t just look at whats in front of me, I look at whats around me. The mountains, the trees, the barns, deer running out in front of my car. I take pics with my iPhone as I go past at 55mph while also yelling at my kids to stop arguing with each other… Multi-tasking at it’s best! …err…uhh…and a little ADD. I’ve past this one particular barn many times and it’s probably on my iPhone somewhere but I’d have to go through over 1,000 pics to find it…LoL (Side Note; upload cellphone pics to Mac) Anyway, a couple weeks ago I get a call from Lisa to do a family/granddaughter 1st birthday shoot at her home. When she told me where she lived, I was so excited I just about jumped out of my chair!

And what a great family as well… Evelyn was a doll. Absolutely Perfect! (and she reminded me of my niece who I don’t get to see very often) Katie & Trevor were so friendly and welcoming and I literally could have sat down and talked Flea Markets with Lisa for hours… She totally gets the appeal of turning something old into something new and beautiful. Love it!

It had been a year since I had seen Kara, Jason & Jaeden. Kara is an old friend of my brothers and we all grew up in the same neighborhood. Fox Mill Estates in Herndon, Va DOH! Actually, it’s Oak Hill, Va now. la-dee-da We went to the same school! Woohoo Oakton Cougars! We swam at the same pool. Go Pinecrest Piranha’s! and we probably shopped (er, I mean tagged along with our Mom’s) at the same grocery store, Fox Mill Giant. Kara, do you remember Sam the cashier? I always thought he looked like Issac Washington from the Love Boat…LoL Anyway, we may not have known each other when we were little but we have the same roots, therefore she was an instant friend when I met her this time last year to do Jaeden’s pictures! It was great seeing them again….

April, Roger are such a sweet couple. We met at a local park and went on quite a little hike. But it was well worth it. We came across some beautiful views, a few sheds built around 1830, an old stone house built in 1770 (amazing that it was still standing, I don’t think my house will last 20 years). We passed some people riding horses and even a guy in full camo bow hunting on state property…Ummm, yeah, that was a little unsettling… But we got some great photos. Cannot wait for their wedding in May!

OMGosh! So I promised cuteness yesterday on facebook and cuteness shall be. I think you’ll agree, Alyssa & Madisyn are the two most adorable little girls ever! We met at their Great-Grandparents farm where they have lived for about 50 years (the great-grandparents, not Alyssa & Madisyn, obviously) and which was once one of the largest dairy farms in Northern Virginia, milking over 300 cows a day. Karen walked me all over the farm and told me stories about growing up here. I love shoots like this! Thank you so much for having me out!

When Felicia told me her little boy, Sean, was “very, very, outgoing” she wasn’t kidding. He was full of energy and ready for anything! He is REALLY into Toy Story and since I could talk about Buzz, Woody, Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head, Rex & RC just about all day long him and I took off towards a little creek to talk about All Things Toy Story. We poked at some bugs with a stick for a while then walked to the bridge to “stand like a cowboy”. And, ummm….I was not doing it right so Sean showed me the right way to do it. You see, you have to lay down ON the bridge, put your hands behind your head then kick your boots up! DUH! How could I have forgotten? I love when kids show me their personalities! And Sean knew what he was talking about too, I mean his boots actually say “ANDY” on the bottom, just like the REAL THING! LOVE IT! Alaina, his little sister was a bit shy but warmed right up and we got some great photos of her as well. Kinda hard not too when you’re as cute as she is…

Amanda is one of the sweetest brides I have had the honor to work with. We had only spoke on the phone a few times but when I pulled up at the Bed & Breakfast she ran right outside (in the humidity) to greet me and show me the way in. Of course my first concern was for her hair, this was her wedding day, after all. I just know how mine is and when the humidity hits it, and well let’s say it turns into a Brillo Pad… Hers did nothing of the sort. In fact, it stayed quite beautiful the whole day. Note to self: Find out anti-frizz secret from Amanda. Oh, and A.J. your hair looked pretty good too (fist bump)!

Ellen + Morgan | Sweet Briar College, Virginia Wedding Photographer

When I met Ellen & Morgan at Starbucks this past winter we went over the same types of questions I ask all my clients but boy was I surprised to find that Ellen actually graduated from Oakton High School (same as me) just a couple years later. (Yes, I said a couple!) I don’t even know how we got there as that’s not a normal question I ask…Anyway, Morgan grew up in Amherst, Virginia, and they met sort of in the middle at JMU! Also an awesome school (my bro went there)! In my little list of questions I also found out they would be using hot pink & navy blue as their colors! Ahhh! Love me some color!!! At this point, I’m thinking, “hot pink & navy blue, AND we’re both Oakton Cougars… oh, please book me!!!” LOL The did and I COULD NOT wait until June 11! The big day finally came, Ellen looked beautiful, Morgan looked very excited and the colors looked awesome! Then I find out Karen, Ellen’s sister also went to Oakton ANNNND, get this, graduated IN MY CLASS! Crazy! We didn’t know each other, big school, but we knew the same people. Did that make sense? So now I’m kinda feeling like part of the family. After all, Ellen did come to my graduation when she was just 2 years old…

Sansanee + Ethan | Boyce, Virginia Wedding Photographer

I spoke to Ethan over the phone this past winter while he was at Penn State, Sansanee (or Sandy as Ethan calls her) was at UVA. They’re both med students and, as you can imagine, they both have crazy schedules. Not only that, but because a lot of Sansanee’s family lives in Thailand they were also planning a trip to go there before the wedding. And Thailand, if you don’t already know, is literally half way around the world. I only know this because I dug my kids globe out of the playroom closet JUST to see where it is. At the time Sansanee’s schedule was a bit crazier than Ethan’s so I mostly spoke with Ethan and he’s a great guy, so I didn’t mind at all. He knew all the deets and filled me in on everything. A geocaching scavenger hunt, bocce ball, lawn bowling, croquet all taking place in the backyard of Ethan’s Aunt Rebekah’s private estate in Boyce, VA. In January we met at Aunt Rebekah’s to do their engagement session. They were such a sweet couple and walked me around the estate telling me where everything would be in June, reception tent over here, lawn games over there, dancing across from the pool… I don’t know about Sansanee & Ethan but I was getting excited! The house was beautiful! The trees and grass, well, let’s just say it was January in Virginia but when June finally came and I drove down the very, very long driveway, it was like everything had come to life, then OH! a “Wedding Today” sign! I LOVE me some signs and they were everywhere! Sansanee arrived shortly thereafter from the salon and looked gorgeous! The bridal party were all dressed in shades of purple, even the guys! Loved it! The tables were all named different kinds of peppers and decorated beautifully!

Ethan & Sansanee, I cannot Thank You enough for allowing me to be part of your day! ~ You’re Wedding was Beautiful!
